40 Women to Watch 2019: Rana Nawas is a tireless advocate for gender parity in the corporate world

Rana Nawas

Rana Nawas is part of The Tempest’s 40 Women to Watch 2019, which spotlights extraordinary women and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.

Rana Nawas is the host of one of the Middle East’s most popular podcasts, When Women Win. Rana is so much more than her podcast, serving as an advisor, mentor, and supporter of female-led initiatives around the world. In an interview with Ellevate, Rana explained what she saw as the definition of success: “To me, success is being happy. We make thousands of choices every day and I think it is critical to be comfortable with (the majority of) them. No professional success can justify my being miserable in life! To me, being happy = challenging, rewarding job + enough quality time with my loved ones + enough downtime for myself.”

A graduate of Oxford University and Harvard Business School, Nawas spent seventeen years working at McKinsey & Company’s London Office, the Dubai Government and GE Capital. In 2017, she left the corporate world to focus on empowering women and working towards gender parity in the corporate world. With guests like CNN’s Hana Gorani and author Cheryl Strayed, When Women Win is a tour de force of inspiring conversations with powerful and fascinating women.

Full disclosure: Rana Nawas is an investor in The Tempest, Inc.
