40 Women to Watch 2019: Representative Katie Hill is working to make America a more just place
Katie Hill is part of The Tempest’s 40 Women to Watch 2019, which spotlights extraordinary women and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.
Progressive millennial U.S. Representative Katie Hill represents California’s 25th district and was sworn into the position in 2019, following a competitive race that displaced the Republican incumbent. In addition to being part of the groundbreaking wave of women elected into office in 2018, Katie is one of the few openly out members. “I’ve identified as bisexual since I was a teenager, and if we want to achieve equality for all in our policies, we need more voices from the LGBTQ community in Congress,” Hill stated on her campaign website. “The federal government has no business in restricting basic human rights based on sexual orientation, and I am ready to protect equality at every turn in Congress.”
Katie is the former Executive Director of People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), a statewide non-profit organization working to end homelessness throughout California. “My job is to advocate for the community,” Hill has said. “It can only happen if we work together.”
