40 Women to Watch 2019: Poet Jasmin Kaur explores decolonization and the beauty of resistance
Jasmin Kaur is part of The Tempest’s 40 Women to Watch 2019, which spotlights extraordinary women and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.
Jasmin Kaur is a writer, illustrator, and spoken word artist. Her writing, which explores decolonization and the beauty of resistance, acts as a means of healing and reclaiming identity. Her first book, When You Ask Me Where I’m Going, is a gorgeous compilation of her poetry – and is a must-read.
Her work has been published in Harper’s Bazaar India, NR Magazine, KaurLife Magazine, Sikh Formations Journal and the UFV Cascade. She’s grateful to be a dastaar-wearing Kaur in a public space challenging perceptions of her identity, especially having grown up without seeing girls who look like herself in media or public discourse.
