40 Women to Watch 2019: Christina Samson helps refugees settle and thrive in Spain
Christina Samson is part of The Tempest’s 40 Women to Watch 2019, which spotlights extraordinary women and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.
Christina Samson is the president and co-founder of the Madrid for Refugees organization, which was founded in 2015.
Madrid for Refugees, which is 100% volunteer-run, provides space for refugees to create their own projects, receive education, and attend community-based events. The organization’s flagship initiative was a community co-working and incubator space for refugees at the Gabinete at C/Victoria 9 in Madrid (Sol). Through this interactive hub, they provided refugees with a space to run their own initiatives and projects, training and education for refugees (language, coding, and digital arts courses), housing items donated to refugees, and holding community benefit events and initiatives.
Christina received her BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara and her Masters from Aula Creactiva. Besides her duties at Madrid for Refugees, Christina also works as a communications and design specialist at United Nations Sustainability Development Goals Action Campaign in Madrid.
