It’s certainly been a hell of a year for us all, hasn’t it? We’ve all had to dig deeper, think more creatively and reinvent ourselves outside of the box in these unprecedentedly challenging times. But I like to say that through great breakdowns come great breakthroughs, and my team has truly stepped up and made me incredibly proud to lead them this year.

Therefore, I am honored and delighted to announce that I’ll be serving as Editor-in-Chief at The Tempest. To be working with a global team with staffers in every single continent sounds like a utopia for most of my peers. To be able to connect, form relationships with, and learn from women of all backgrounds, abolishing all walls of time and space, has always been a dream of mine, and it’s what we’re doing at The Tempest. It’s incredibly eye-opening and never gets old or redundant, because you pick up something new every day.

Sure, working with people in 20 different time-zones can be confusing sometimes, but it also gave me a lesson in adaptability. This year, when humanity went to hell in a handbasket with COVID-19 and every company in the world was forced to abruptly adapt to a new system of remote smart-working, we’d been doing this since the very beginning.

In my time at The Tempest, I’ve been lucky enough to meet thousands of bright young women and to work closely with hundreds and hundreds of them. Understanding them, mentoring and watching them grow has been the most rewarding experience of my life.

Working with every single fellow is a privilege, the entire journey from reading their resume to hitting publish on their first article. Unbreakable bonds have been formed in our newsroom, and I would like to thank especially our incredible editors for the invaluable work they do every day. They are the real superheroes working behind the scenes and making sure we publish quality, authentic, cutting-edge content every single day. They also have my eternal gratitude for always putting their faith in me from moment 0 when I was chosen to lead them. Especially because I was the only non-native English speaker in the room at the time.

I applied to be an editorial fellow back at The Tempest back in 2017, which sounds like yesterday but is four years ago – years in which I graduated college, moved three apartments, edited a thousand articles and made countless life-lasting connections. I could not have imagined then how much it would’ve shaped and changed the course of my life.

In 2021, I hope we can continue informing, inspiring and empowering millions. Our readers look to us in times of uncertainty, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. I want us to be better and bigger and reach an even wider audience. I want us to continue shedding light on stories that need to be told, shattering all taboos. I want us to continue supporting and giving visibility to women who for too long have been overshadowed. For my part, my resolution for the next year is to let go of all insecurities regarding my new role, and to help others overcome their imposter syndrome.

We’ll be accomplishing all this across many new platforms – we don’t like sticking to one medium! Soon, we’ll launch the second season of our podcast The Exposé, of which I’m going to be a co-host, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for this new experience!

At the closing of a rollercoaster year, I start this new journey with the same wide-eyed excitement I had on my first day as a fellow. I believe our mission is more important than ever: storytelling is crucial in these dire times. And, as I always say, words have the power to change the world.

Ad majora!
