Privacy

We at The Tempest respect your privacy and take it very seriously.

This Privacy Policy describes the policies and procedures of Tempest Media Inc. (“The Tempest”, “we”, “our” or “us”) on the collection, use and disclosure of your information on http://thetempest.co (the “Site” or “Our Site”), any mobile applications offered by us (the “Applications”) and the services, features or content we offer, like our email newsletter (collectively with the Site and the Applications, the “Services”). We receive information about you from various sources, including: (i) if you register for the Site, Applications and the Services, through your user account on the Services (your “Account”); (ii) your use of the Services generally; and (iii) from third party websites and services. When you use the Services, you are consenting to the collection, transfer, manipulation, storage, disclosure and other uses of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect:

The information that we collect from you helps us to personalize, improve and continue to operate the Services. In connection with certain aspects of the Services, we may request, collect and/or display some of your Personal Information. We collect the following types of information from our users:

User Content

Some features of the Services allow you to provide content to the Services, like written comments or articles. All the content you submit to the Services may be retained by us indefinitely. We may continue to disclose such content to third parties in a way that does not reveal Personal Information, as described in this Privacy Policy.

IP (Internet Protocol) Address Information and Other Information Collected Automatically

We automatically receive and record information from your web browser when you interact with the Services. This information includes your IP address, unique device identifier and cookie information. This information is used for fighting spam/malware and also to facilitate collection of data concerning your interaction with the Services like what links you have clicked on.

Generally, the Services automatically collect usage information, like the number and frequency of visitors to the Site. This type of data enables us and third parties authorized by us to figure out how often individuals use parts of the Services so that we can analyze and improve them.

“Do Not Track”

Your browser may offer a “Do Not Track” option, which allows you to signal to operators of websites and web applications and services that you do not wish such operators to track certain of your online activities over time and across different websites. Our Services do support Do Not Track requests.

How your information is collected:

Children under 13

We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under thirteen. No one under age 13 may provide any information to or on the Site. If you are under 13, do not use or provide any Personal Information to us on or through our Site, register for our ambassador program or survey program, or sign up for our newsletter. Please do not provide us with any Personal Information including your name, email address or any screen name or user name that you may use on other sites.

We usually collect personally identifiable (name, email address, etc.) that you voluntarily provide. For example, your name, contact information, and other Personal Information may be collected when you: sign up for our newsletters, join our survey program and complete surveys, post a comment to an article, joining our ambassador program, or participate in our social networking features. When you participate in our survey program, you may be asked to provide your email address, your name, buying preferences, annual income and/or other demographic or profile information. Twitter or Facebook usernames or other usernames and aliases are used for purposes of linking to and/or posting on your social media accounts.

Information Related to Advertising and the Use of Web Beacons

To support and enhance the Services, we may serve advertisements through the Services, including through our email newsletter. These advertisements are sometimes targeted and served to particular users.

Advertisements served through the Services may be targeted to users who fit a certain general profile category (e.g., “users in New York”), may be based on anonymous information inferred from information provided to us by a user, including Personal Information like gender or age, or may be based on the Services usage patterns of particular users. We do not provide Personal Information to any third parties for use outside of the Services.

We may deliver a file (known as a “web beacon”) to you through the Services in order to increase the effectiveness of ad delivery. Web beacons allow us, through our third party ad server, to provide anonymized, aggregated auditing, research and reporting for us and for advertisers. Because your web browser must request these advertisements and web beacons from us via our third party ad servers, these ad servers can view, edit or set their own cookies, just as if you had requested a web page from their site.

Other Information We Collect

We and other parties may also collect certain information about your online activities over time and across third-party Websites or other online services. The information we collect is mainly what pages you visited and how often and for how long you visit them. We also use “cookies” and “web beacons” as well as other automated technologies. You can object to the creation of usage profiles at any time.

We also collect statistical information about how both unregistered and registered users, collectively, use the Services, which statistical information may be derived from Personal Information and collected and stored in an aggregate form that cannot be tied back to you, your Account or your web browser (“Aggregate Statistical Information”). Additionally, we collect statistical information about how both unregistered and registered users, collectively, use the Services, that may be tied to your unique mobile device identifier, IP address and geolocation information and thus may be tied back to you, your Account or your web browser (“Personally Identifiable Statistical Information”) (together with Aggregate Statistical Information, “Statistical Information”).

Your survey responses will be used to give us a better understanding of your opinions and how you feel about the site. Your demographic information and survey responses will be completely anonymous and analyzed in an aggregate form. This means that your demographic information and survey answers will not be connected to your identity. We will use that information for research purposes only and only members of our staff will have access to the raw data. Sharing Information

First and foremost, any information we share will be anonymous. That means that we will never share your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information acquired through our Services with third parties. The information we share is data taken from third party services like Google Analytics and Quantcast and information from surveys completed in the survey program. Google Analytics and Quantcast tell us information like what kinds of products our readers like to buy, what part of the world they are in, and their basic demographic information. We may share this data with possible and current business partners. Information from survey responses is shared anonymously. As mentioned in the survey section of this Privacy Policy, your answers won’t be tied to your Personal Information. When survey data is shared, it is in aggregate form and is used to show current and potential business partners an idea of our reader demographics and your opinions about different products.

Data Inclusion in Articles

We may also share tweets in articles that feature a trending hashtag. When we do this, we will mention you on Twitter, so you will always know if your tweet is being used. If you want your tweet removed from the article, please contact us at support@thetempest.co and we will remove it.
