Here are the 15 most iconic looks that came out of 2020

In the year of COVID 19, the global pandemic has prompted us to shift our style as we stay at home, vie for comfort and ditch the rigid attire we were so used to wearing day-to-day. Put it this way, I can’t remember the last time I wore my underwired bra and tights that suck and hold everything into place! As it’s come to the end of 2020, it’s only right that we look back on the most iconic looks of 2020 – from loose-fitting clothing, to captivating makeup and hair trends that’ll make others do a double-take when they see on a Zoom call, we’ve got all of the 2020 trends covered.

Here’s a tip to keep in mind – you don’t need to browse and buy these looks. Dig in your closet and you’ll find you have a lot of these garments to hand!

So here we go, here are the most iconic looks of 2020.

1. Work from home look

This is the kind of style we couldn’t avoid whilst we were stuck in quarantine! The work from home look tended to be comprised of loose-fitting, relaxed clothing that allowed us to feel comfortable whilst attending our emails, and Zoom calls. My hoodie and tracksuit bottoms combo were my ultimate gear (and still are) during lockdown!

2. Baggy Jeans

Move out of the way skinny jeans, baggy jeans are back in the game! This 90s denim trend fits in with the homely aesthetic we’ve seen in 2020. They’re a wardrobe basic that you can match with t-shirts or hoodies as part of your comfort wear, or for an effortlessly chic look pair with a blazer and accessories.

3. Oversized Victorian Sleeves

This is the ultimate fashionista statement – puffiness in all its glory! The voluminous sleeves are a great way to show off your waist. Whether the victorian-style sleeves are on a top or dress, it’s without a doubt a delicate yet striking style that will leave an impression.

4. Neutral Tones

Neutral tones such as sand, camel and khaki appear to be the color trend of 2020. Whether you’re wearing one neutral color or mixing up various neutral tones, it’s a versatile hue that can be dressed up or down.

5. Chunky boots with feminine dresses

The grunge aesthetic was back in a big way in 2020. Feminine dresses paired with chunky boots are a great way of combining two different styles for a badass look.

6. Flannel Shirts

Casual, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish – those are the things that come to mind when you think of a flannel shirt. This staple item, which everyone has in their wardrobe, was back on trend in 2020. Wear it with jeans, leggings, a skirt, or as a dress – there are so many ways to rock the flannel shirt.

7. Tiger Print

You can’t talk about trends and leave out animal prints. It was all about the tiger this year – this feisty print can work perfectly as a top, skirt, dress, or jacket. If you want to show a hint of animal, you can opt for footwear or accessories that feature the print.

8. Colorful hair

If we were going to experiment with our hair color, quarantine was the best time to do that whilst we were stuck at home! From silver and white to pink and lilac, no color was off-limits when it came to changing up our locks this year.

9. Dip Dye Ends

If you don’t feel brave enough to dye your entire hair, dip dying can strike a good balance if you want to add a pop of color. Curly, wavy, or straight – the dip-dye hair trend this year made heads turn however it was styled!

10. Neon Eyeshadow

Eyes were doing all the talking this year. Bold neon shades were one of the biggest beauty trends of 2020. Keeping the rest of the makeup and hairstyle subtle can render a nice visual balance to the whole look.

11. Bright Eyeliner

For a more subtle eye look (if you think a neon eyeshadow isn’t for you), lining your eyes with a bright-colored eyeliner is a fun way to experiment with colors without taking too much risk.

12. Knee High Boots

You can never go wrong with boots, they’re versatile and work well with so many outfits. The boot trend this year was knee high boots. They have a certain sophistication about them – your ensemble can look more chic and enviable when you combine it with this footwear. They’ll look stunning when worn with long and flirty dress. For a more edgy look, you can rock these boots with a short skirt and a long jacket.

13. Hoop Earrings

Hoop earrings are a timeless accessory, but they were a notable trend this year. They’re a great way to enliven a plain outfit or as a final touch to your favorite outfit.  Style your hair up in a ponytail or bun and the hoop earrings will beautifully elevate the look.

14. Statement Chain Necklace

A chain necklace is a striking piece of jewelry. From oversized, thick, chunky chokers to dainty statement pieces, this necklace trend can effortlessly pull a stunning look together.

15. Face Mask

At the age of COVID 19, the must-have accessory of 2020 is, of course, the face mask – if you don’t have one, then I suggest you buy one IMMEDIATELY. The face mask saves lives and it’s here to stay – this is one accessory we cannot live without.

These trends will undoubtedly be around for 2021. So if you fancy experimenting with these iconic looks of 2020, take the time to rummage through your clothes, make-up bag, and jewelry box before you consider buying.
