Content Warning: mentions of abuse.

Actress Arryn Zech recently came forward accusing her ex-boyfriend, actor Bob Morley, of verbal and emotional abuse.

Just last week, the RWBY actress spoke of her abuse on a Twitch stream with fans and the surprise and shock from her accusations have sent shockwaves through both the RWBY and The 100 fandoms. Morley is the male lead character on The 100 since its conception and has had a strong and loyal following from the show’s creation in 2014. The two dated for almost four years until 2019, when Morley and his The 100 costar Eliza Taylor announced – out of the blue – that they had just gotten married.

It is no secret among fans that Morley and Taylor – who, as the show’s lead had been a good friend of Morley and Zech for years – probably cheated on Arryn. The timelines of the breakup between Bob and Arryn and the relationship of Bob and Eliza just don’t add up otherwise. Despite this, Zech had been mostly silent about it until now, aside a couple of remarks made here and there about being betrayed by two close people recently.

Since her Twitch stream, Arryn has addressed her claims through a statement that she released on Twitter last Saturday, candidly writing that “Bob emotionally and verbally abused me.” Throughout her statement, she mentioned instances where Morley had verbally abused her. He accused her of cheating when she told him of an instance of sexual assault; and “was disgusted” when she told him she was bisexual. Moreover, she accuses him of having an affair for the last six months of their relationship.

Morley and Zech were together for at least three and a half years before their break up on Valentine’s Day 2019. Prior to this, they had begun to rent a house in Beverly Hills in December 2018 which Zech stated on Twitter “was not for her and him but for the girl he was cheating on her with”, meaning Taylor.

Throughout Zech’s relationship with Morley, she stated that she was gaslighted by both him and the girl he cheated on her with. “I would hear them whisper or see how they looked at each other… The gaslighting from these two made me feel absolutely crazy. They actually called me crazy.” He refused to protect her from the abuse from her fans which consequently led to her removing herself from public spaces such as YouTube.

Zech states that she is still scared of Morley and, by releasing this statement, she is taking her voice back.

The accusations have been met with devastation across The 100 fandom. Morley had always been recognized and celebrated as being a person who cares deeply for both his fans and the other people in his life. All fans who met him as well of his costars only had great things to say about him, so Arryn’s reveal came as a real blow.

In fact, many fans have struggled to believe Zech’s accusations as they do not portray the person that they feel Morley is. For quite some time, Bob has been very outspoken about his own mental illness and severe depression, and has become an ardent supporter of mental health awareness and education, being very open about his struggles and how this has impacted both his personal and professional life.

We will always side with the victims, even if sometimes the things they are claiming are hard to believe. As a big fan of Bob Morley’s show and of his character Bellamy Blake, reading Arryn’s statement hurt. It hurt having to rethink the way I saw this person I thought I knew. Is everything Arryn claimed true? That’s between her and Bob. But there must be a reason why she chose to come forward with this accusation a year later.

It is important to remember that abuse can take place in many forms and most of the time it can happen behind closed doors and through microaggressions. Even though people like Bob Morley, Eliza Taylor, and Arryn Zech are in the media, they also have a private life that the general public is not privy to. Most importantly, emotional abuse does not carry physical scars and abusers are not always abusive to everyone they meet. Sometimes, it is only the people who are closest to them that are able to see that side of a person and may not always be able to realize it or bring it to life when it is happening.

As of July 6th, neither Bob Morley, Eliza Taylor, or any representative has come forward to make a statement regarding this accusation.
