Like the clatter of reindeer on your roof, the holidays have arrived without warning. As an adult, shopping for the perfect gift has become a source of stress instead of fun, thanks to our ever-growing commercialization of the holidays. But there are some gifts I do enjoy buying and those are stocking stuffers. What I love about them is that they can be creative, small gifts. In my family, we fill our stockings with fun, silly presents and it’s sometimes the best part of Christmas.
If you’re feeling financially strained or sapped of energy, stocking stuffers might be the way to go. Here are to make your holidays merry:
If you’re anything like me, winter makes your hands and elbows scalier than dragon’s skin. Receiving a nice body lotion always makes me happy. Homemade lotion can often be a cheap alternative because it doesn’t contain toxic ingredients or fragrances. It’s also a nice way to show someone you care. There are many recipes available online for lotion and body butter using ingredients like coconut oil and lavender.
For your more creative loved ones, give them tempaper removable wallpaper. They can literally write on the walls and then easily remove it when they’re ready for a change. For those not as artistically-inclined, you can also buy templates to draw over. It also makes a good gift for people who like to decorate but change their mind easily or are renting a space.
If you’ve got that friend who’s always on the go, a travel kit or a beauty emergency kit is the perfect present. They come with things you always need but never have on hand like hair ties, socks, safety pins, and adhesive bandages.
For people who need complete darkness to sleep, or those with migraines, or sinus pain, a weighted eye pillow is a dream come true (pun intended).
5) A mini flask
Stay on trend with this Pantone flask and keep your tea, hot cocoa, or alcohol by your side. Whether you’re gathering around a fire or ice skating with friends, your drinks will always stay hot.
6) Bike lights
With the days getting shorter, commuting home often means walking around in the dark. These disco-worthy lights are a fun present to light the way for the biker in your life.
7) A compliment jar
Compliments jars are one of my favorite personal gifts. I often give them to my female friends on Galentine’s Day but they can make good stocking stuffers too. Just grab a jar or any nice-looking container, write down as many compliments or things you love about the person, decorate it and – voila! It makes for a heartfelt, affordable present.
Getting together with your family means long dinners and lots of dishes to wash. Who can resist this adorable dishcloth that doubles as a scrubber in the shape of an owl?
Travel-sized items make the best stocking stuffers. This pop-up hairbrush won’t take up a lot of room and with this bright color, you can easily find it in the black hole our bags always become.
11) Wine Away
This spray literally gets out any wine stain. I got it one year in my own stocking and have been buying it ever since. It even worked on a chocolate stain I had on my sweater. Get it for your chronically klutzy loved ones.
12) Bottle spatulas
We’ve all suffered from this problem. You’re about to finish that bottle of ketchup or honey and the last few bits just won’t come out. If you manage to find a spoon that magically fits, you’re left with messy hands and you can’t quite scrape it all out. Thank Shark Tank for finding this invention – the Spatty Daddy. I absolutely hate the name but it’s a genius idea. Use it for your kitchen condiments or even your shampoo bottle.
Whether you decide to splurge on a bunch of little gifts or just one or two things to fill those stockings, I’m sure you’ll find something on this list perfect for that special someone.
