Gender, Life + Love

These Caribbean women marched against gender-based violence – and it was historic

This march is the first such one in recent history that brings together women from across the region to unite against gender-based violence.

March 6th, 2017 saw walks across the Caribbean for #lifeinleggings, a social media campaign started in Barbados in November 2016, which brought to light everyday sexual harassment women experience. The campaign spread to other islands including Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominica with Caribbean women sharing similar, and horrifying sexual harassment incidents.

#Lifeinleggings was joined with other hashtags including #leaveshealone and #leavemealone from Trinidad and #TambourineArmy from Jamaica which are local movements calling for end to sexual harassment, rape culture and reiterating the need to protect all women in society.

This march is the first such one in recent history that brings together women from across the region to unite against gender-based violence.
