Brows have been a topic of discussion for a long time now. At first, it seemed like no one really seemed to pay attention to perfecting their eyebrows, up until the beauty world was dominated by different eyebrow trends. Not to mention the rise of eyebrow kits – now, there’s everything from brow powder, brow pomade, brow pencils, brow mascara, to brow gel and much more. As fashion changes, so do makeup trends. The accepted brow shape in turn has also been changing over the past few years. There was a time when over plucked, thin brows were in. But now, thick undone brows are life.

In a world full of opinions, it’s hard to find the perfect eyebrow shape for yourself. What many people don’t know is that a high arch ombré brow doesn’t suit everyone. Just like how my dark, shaped out brows won’t suit you if you have a longer or more structured face compared to me.
If you’re a person who’s new to the brow world and you want the perfect brow shape, I’d like to welcome you to the dark side. I’m here to guide you to the right shape.

There are a few steps you’d need to take pre-brow.
Find your face shape:

There are 6 typical face shapes – you could be a particular shape OR a combination of the two. (For example, I’m a Squ-Oval.)

For this step, please step in front of a mirror – do not smile. Take a marker and draw the outline of your face with an erasable pen or a lipstick. Step away and take a look at the shape.
See if your face fits into these descriptions below:
1. Round Face

Face is as wide as it is long. Face is widest at the cheeks.
2. Oval Face

Forehead is wider than the chin, so the face tapers at the chin with prominent cheekbones.
3. Square Face

Forehead, cheeks and chin are about the same width. The strong jaw is the more prominent feature.
4. Heart Face

This is a similar shape to the oval, except the chin is tapered down to a point.
5. Long Face

Forehead, cheekbones and jawlines are the same length. Chin tapers down to a narrow oval.
6. Diamond Face
Not a common one, but highly angular face. Face is widest at the temples and forehead is short.
Remember, you could be a combination of the two shapes, and you would essentially pick what feature you would like you accentuate and showcase.
Okay, now that we have our face shape down, let’s move on to the next step:
Now, find the perfect brow for your face shape:

1. Round Face

The goal with the round face is to essentially make it appear less round, and more longer. Anyone with a rounder face knows the struggles of having a less structured face shape. The eyebrow shape that works the best is a high arched brow.
This brow will help create more vertical lines, add more angle to your face. The higher arch will make your face appear longer – hence draw the eye up and down.
Advice: Stay away from the round brow.
2. Oval Face

Technically speaking, this is the ideal face shape. It has enough length and softness as well as angles. An ideal shape for this face shape would be a soft angled brow. This brow accentuates the angular but soft features of the face.
Tip: You can technically try a thicker brow on this face shape to add more angles and lines.
3. Square Face

The goal here is to balance the angles of your face with the softness of your brows. Because you have a more prominent, angular jawline – stay away from anything angular in the brow department. The eyebrow shape that will work for you would be a soft rounded brow. This brow will create a balance and reduce the amount of strong features of your face.
BUT.
If you love the stronger features, consider a thicker angular brow. This brow will add to the boldness of your features and complement them very well.
Advice: Do not over-pluck to a round brow.
4. Heart Face

The goal here is to accentuate this delicate face shape and add more definition to the heart-ness of the face. The best or most suitable brow shape for that would be the round brow shape. Now, this isn’t like the rainbow, semi-circle brow. But more soft arched round brow.
BUT.
If you want to add length to your face, try a higher arch – this will make your face appear longer. In turn, making it look a little more dramatic and prominent.
Advice: A straight brow will divide your face or make it shorter.
5. Long Face

This is a relatively longer face, the goal here would be to shorten the length so that an on-looker would require moving the eyes up and down.
The brow shape most suitable for this face would be a straight brow with minimal arch. This brow will add some horizontal lines making it appear shorter.
Advice: Any arch would add more length to the face which will automatically stretch your features out.
6. Diamond Face

The goal for this face shape would be to reduce the wideness at the temples. The best brow shape for that would be either a higher arched brow or a more rounded brow. These brow shapes will add more length to the face as well as more softness to the face.
Advice: Even though it’s daunting, try the rounder brow.
Happy brow-hunting!
