15 inspiring quotes for when love is on your mind

"That time you confused a lesson for a soulmate."

I am a huge fan of words and the power a couple of sentences can have on a person. Be it in the form of lyrics, scripts, poetry, novels, essays, speeches — even tweets. If the words move me, I’m a fan. When I was younger, I was especially inclined to those cheesy Pinterest quotes everyone made as their AIM or MSN display pictures. So while my love for quotes has always been strong, it has matured over the years and become kind of an obsessive hobby to save my favorite ones.

Today, I want to share some of those favorite quotes with you. Below are some quotes about love that I found most powerful, whether the love be  unrequited love, heartbreak love, or infatuation love. Whatever it is you’re looking for, I hope you find it. I know I did.

This is the beginning of a series that will always try to bring you the best quotes scattered around the world. If you want to see more posts like this, show us your love on Twitter and Facebook!

“I always talk about love, but I’ve seen a life where I can live without it, where I can eat with my hands, make the whole bed, leave the light on for myself.”

– Caitlyn Siehl, Loveless

“قالوا: تموت بها حبـاًً؟
.قلـت:  ألا آذكروها علـى قبـري لتحيينـي
They asked, “Do you love her to death?”
I said, “Speak of her over my grave and watch how she brings me back to life.”

“I’m in love with you. Yeah, it’s that bad. You’re so beautiful to me. Shut up, let me tell you, let me. Every time I look at your face, or even remember it, it wrecks me. And the way you are with me, and you’re just fun and you shit all over me and you make fun of me and you’re real. I don’t have enough time in any day, to think about you enough. I feel like I’m gonna live a thousand years cause that’s how long it’s gonna take me to have one thought about you, which is that I’m crazy about you. I don’t wanna be with anybody else. I don’t. I really don’t. I don’t think about women anymore. I think about you. I had a dream the other night that you and I were on a train. We were on this train and you were holding my hand. That’s the whole dream, you were holding my hand and I felt you holding my hand. I woke up and I couldn’t believe it wasn’t real. I’m sick in love with you. It’s like a condition, it’s like polio. I feel like I’m gonna die if I can’t be with you and I can’t be with you, so I’m gonna die and I don’t care cause I was brought into existence to know you, and that’s enough. The idea that you would want me back? It’s like, greedy.”

– Louis C.K., Louie

“That time you confused a lesson for a soulmate.”

Dream Hampton

“It’s all about falling in love with yourself and sharing that love with someone who appreciates you, rather than looking for love to compensate for a self love deficit.”

– Eartha Kitt

For 29 years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for 29 years.”

– The National, Slow Show

“It’s scary when you find parts of yourself in someone else
And you can’t remember whether you gave it to them freely
Or whether they took it by force.”

– TheBestFriendRole

“Are you really that ugly, that unwanted, that uninteresting, that boring, that no one, absolutely no one, has ever looked at you like the only thing on earth? The answer is no. The better answer is that someone out there, somewhere in the world, is “wondering what it’s like to meet someone like you,” and they have two decades worth of love stored in their veins like a shoot-‘em-up drug, and they’re just about ready to inject it into someone else’s bloodstream. All you have to do is roll up your sleeves and wait for it to happen.”

– Meggie Royer, for twenty-year-olds who have never been loved

“I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way. Oh my dear, I can’t be clever and stand-offish with you: I love you too much for that. Too truly. You have no idea how stand-offish I can be with people I don’t love. I have brought it to a fine art. But you have broken down my defenses. And I don’t really resent it.”

– Sackville West, in a letter to Virginia Woolf dated 21 January 1926

“How odd I can have all this inside me and to you it’s just words.”

– David Foster Wallace, The Pale King
