9 amazing beauty bloggers of color you should follow on Instagram

Comment, heart, follow, adore.

If you google makeup beauty icons to follow on Instagram, there’s one fact glaringly obvious: most lists are often filled with white artists, with very few mentions of artists from the world’s many different races in between (like here and here).

If you are a woman of color, this can be especially frustrating when the makeup tips, tricks, and looks do not fit your facial features and skin tones – or just flat out don’t fit your style (especially when it comes to natural looks).

Join my snapchat ? "DYF-Tamanna" to hear about my experience with all things quote-unquote "FAKE" including my facial enhancements and new smile ?? Everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion but please do keep in mind, I'm a 31 year-old grown woman. I am capable of making my own decisions and I finally decided to start taking better care of myself on the inside and outside, and I'm feeling and looking better than I ever had my whole life ?? And I promise you, no matter what little things I decide to change about myself on the outside, I will forever be your same beloved Tam and that will NEVER change ❤️ Fakeness is not what people see on the surface. It's what's INSIDE your heart, your mind, and your soul. And I promise to always be the same real @dressyourface you all fell in love with years ago. ☺️ Huge thank you to my doctors @simonourianmd1 and @drsamsaleh for giving me just what I needed to reflect my happiness from the inside onto my smile on the outside ?? Finally feeling complete.

Although her eyeshadow palette with Anastasia Beverly Hills really put her on the map, Tamanna has been in the makeup game for nearly a decade and a half. Not only does she boast over 2 million followers on Insta, but she also runs a successful beauty company called Dress your Face, which offers online makeup classes and certifications and free makeup tutorials as well.

Her Insta is replete with looks she has done on celebrities (most notably Christina Milian), brides, and herself – as well as reviews of various beauty products. If you want to glam up your life and makeup skills, she is a must follow.

2. @makeupbydenise

This queen is blessed because she is fierce in both, a dark and sultry evening look to a soft and subtle day look. Her Insta is chock full of tutorials on how to contour, apply foundation, different eyeshadow looks, and more. Her greatest perfection, however, is her ombre lip – which she offers tutorials in various colors from red to blue.

If that isn’t enough, she has a blog with extensive reviews of beauty products and styles. As an added bonus, her frequent hairstyle changes and fashionable style only add to her badassery.

Cannot wait to meet you today!

This (recently) pink-haired beauty is quite the package – not only does she create flawless looks, but she’s got great style, an unabashed attitude, and is quite the feminist. Furthermore, she gives zero effs about those who consistently body shame her for her curvaceous figure – this was seen clearly when she posted a photo of her eating a cheeseburger while wearing a lace crop top and skirt.

If that’s not enough for you, Kim’s Insta is the go-to if you’re not into spending hundreds on makeup supplies, because she often posts tips, tricks, and reviews of affordable – yet still as flawless – makeup found at your local drugstore.

4. @vegas_nay

Naomi established herself as a successful and world renown makeup artist through her YouTube channel. This past year, she launched her eyelash line with Eylure and also put out the Stardust Palette with makeup mogul Too Faced – both of which sold out consistently throughout the year.

So what makes her Insta so special? Naomi likes to share the wealth – and does so through constantly reposting makeup tutorials, reviews, photos, and more of unknown makeup artists (many of which are WOC!) instead of boasting her own artistry in order to help them gain success.

Considering she has over 7 million followers, this is definitely a move of generosity. And it’s a win-win for all of us: makeup artists get a leg in the door while followers are given an infinite amount of artists to check out.

5. @nuralailalov

It’s no secret that Nura knows how to rock Insta without even trying. Like many of her counterparts on this list, she has a mighty successful YouTube channel, as well as an Insta that absolutely slays. Of Swiss, Morrocan, and Lebanese descent, she has a look and style that is not only beautiful and unique, but one that has makeup enthusiasts across the world excited for her work.

Her Insta is full of not only her flawless makeup looks and tutorials, but also great hijabi fashion – and, as an added bonus, there are quite a few cameos by her mini-me (her absolutely adorable and quirky daughter).

As one of the more famous black makeup artists, her Insta has gained over a million followers over the years. Like some of her colleagues, she also offers online classes of her own at MakeUpShayla.

Although she does not offer as many tutorial videos (although there are a number of them), photos of her impeccable style and clean eating, as well as her workout videos, will want you eating, moving, and looking absolutely fierce. With health, fashion, and makeup, it’s more like a three-for-one, really.

7. @hudabeauty

The most successful in terms of followers on this list is none other than the U.S. born and Dubai based Iraqi makeup-blogger-turned-business-woman Huda Kattan. Through her blog and YouTube, she has gained over 11 million followers on Insta and has also created a budding beauty empire, Huda Beauty – which has the number 1 selling eyelashes in the Middle East. Like Naomi (VegasNay), she likes to share the wealth, and, according to her Insta bio, she “loves to support artists.”

This she proves clearly on her Insta, in which she consistently posts videos of tutorials, looks, tips, and tricks by other artists in order to help them gain fame and help her followers gain a better grip on their makeup skills.

8. @auroramakeup

This Mexico-based mother of three doesn’t consider herself a makeup artist at all. In fact, she has restated time and time again that she is just a girl who loves to play with makeup. The photos and tutorial videos of her fierce skills on her Insta,  however, say otherwise.

Her go-to makeup style is dark and sultry, but she also proves that she is versatile when she posts natural and super-glam and glittery looks as well. Also, a huge bonus for Latina followers – she often posts in English and Spanish.

9. @maya_mia_y

This self-taught Tanzanian artist has gained quite the following over the years due to her Insta and YouTube channel – a following that helped catch the eye of Anastasia Beverly Hills. After creating the Maya Mia palette with ABH, she skyrocketed to fame. Her Insta not only includes makeup tutorial videos and photos but health tips and her fashion style as well.

However, what makes her stand out from the rest is her love of color – whether it’s her hair, eyeshadow, lipstick, or eyes, her Insta is bursting with the various shades of the rainbow.
