i will usually never mention what inspires any of my work. but this piece goes beyond the words in this post. it was inspired by a particular conversation with my friend @pavvstar. we were talking about the obstacles girls in our community (punjab and some parts of the diaspora) face: one of the issues being female infanticide and female foeticide. we have some of the highest rates in any community in the world. when a punjabi girl is born and kept she's already won her first victory. imagine that. even before they are born, our girls are fighting to live.
language is powerful. the words you use on yourself are powerful. when these words you use are laced with negativity you rot from the inside out. you birth self harm and self hatred. so speak to yourself in the kind and soft way you'd speak to a parent. lover. friend. and you will begin to foster growth. you are alive and you are able. that is miracle enough. you are breathing and you are ready. be kind to yourself to prosper ?
