Mauritius is a beautiful island near Madagascar and a major tourist destination. Mark Twain described it best when he said: “Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and that heaven was copied after Mauritius.”

It’s also the place I’m lucky enough to call home. If you’ve never been to or heard of Mauritius, here’s a glimpse of it through Instagram pictures.

Most hotels are found by the beach, where you can have your meals or just laze around on a chaise longue. #holidaygoals

One of our waterfalls, in all its glory.

Sega dancers, which is as Mauritian as you can get in terms of entertainment.

Horse-racing happens every Saturday, it’s a pretty big deal for many.

Ah, the Mauritian biryani (or, more commonly known as “briyani”). While Mauritian Muslims hold a monopoly over this dish as they serve it on almost every occasion, all Mauritians salivate over a plate of briyani with a side of salad and pickle.

Hiking trips are also really popular, and you can see why.

Another picture of our resorts, because they’re pretty darn awesome.

Since I refuse to accept that Eid has come and gone by so fast – a picture of typical Eid decorations in Plaine Verte, a suburb of Port Louis.
