abaya [əˈbīə/] noun: a full-length, sleeveless outer garment worn by some Muslim women.

Growing up, I was always in envious awe of the women I saw flawlessly rocking the abaya. I mean, come on — it takes a certain amount of flair and badassery to knock out a flowing, billowy dress, and these women had exactly that. I promised myself that one day I’d be able to rock one, but it took me until this year to get my hands on a simple black abaya. Let’s be real, though — these women take it to a whole other level.

There’s a certain sense of pride in one’s history and culture that is seeped into the garments worn. Typically worn by Arab women, abayas evoke nostalgic memories of times gone by — although frankly, there’s never a wrong time to wear an abaya. These women certainly proved that fact to be true.
